French country styled interiors dates to the 17th century. French country furniture is a style with elegant rustic charm.

I first came to experience the beauty of French country décor while working for a large retailer known as Wetherly’s. (Anyone remember those days?) Wetherly’s specialized in French country furnishings as well as various Provincial styled furniture. My days were filled with the smell of lavender fragrances, or sweet fruit orchards. I had the pleasure of styling beautiful, distressed furniture pieces, beds layered with linens, cushions in toile fabrics and hanging inspirational artwork.

In our current times, we may not be able to travel, due to travel restrictions. We can draw inspiration from French country interiors, that will make you feel like you’re in a French countryside.

French Décor styles

French décor styles range from rustic elegance to refined provincial styles, reminiscent of bygone days and genteel lifestyles. A style that once faded in popularity and re-emerged as one of the popular styles in current trends. Inspirations drawn from the scenic landscapes of the South of France with  lavender fields, rolling hills and fruit orchards. French country style has a simplistic feel with washed wooden floors, exposed wooden beams, muted painted wall colours and soft flowing fabrics for window treatments. For a more opulent country look, dining tables can be accessorized with vintage look vases of various heights, filled with fresh flowers, natural cotton table runner and an interesting decorative bowl. A minimal dressed dining table can be just as interesting with natural woven textured runner and a simple vase with dried floral arrangement.

Bedroom décor reflects simple grace and charm with high tufted headboards, beds layered with natural linen and natural wooden framed mirror. A painted armoire can add that personal touch to the space.

French country Kitchens

French country kitchens are possibly the most inviting kitchens, think of neutral granite tops with natural wooden cupboards, rustic woven hanging pendants and lots of fresh flowers! Create a conversation starter with mix and match furniture pieces, painted chairs and natural wooden table, creating a space for informal meals, or coffee with friends.

Design is in the details; a French country themed home is sure to inspire and make you feel like you’re in the South of France………Bienvenue chez moi!
